Image Transformation Therapy (IMTT)

Image Transformation Therapy (IMTT) is best described as a combination of guided meditations and somatic reprocessing techniques that allow the gentle release and desensitization of intense images, sensations, and emotions. IMTT was developed by an EMDR specialist relatively “recently” enough that IMTT is not as extensively researched as EMDR. I have experienced the transformative possibilities of this therapy myself as a client, and can attest that the positive effects of these techniques have been permanent and life changing for me. I have practiced IMTT for three years now, and have similar, efficient, and long-lasting results with my clients. Some of my clients prefer IMTT and report feeling that it is more gentle than EMDR, as it is more “titrated” and keeps the brain focused on one specific targeted aspect of the disturbing material “at a distance” rather than allowing the brain to “go where it needs to go” to heal. When trauma is overwhelming this can be a very reassuring aspect of choosing to add IMTT to your treatment. In my practice, I have used IMTT to effectively treat:

  • Anxiety, Phobias, & Panic

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Grief and loss

  • OCD and perfectionism

  • Codependency and people pleasing

  • Positive associations with unhealthy and undesired behaviors

  • A variety of sensation difficulties such as involuntary frozen, olfactory flashbacks, auditory flashbacks, and hyper vigilance sensory responses in the body
